Hoy se han dado a conocer las nominaciones a los premios más esperados y deseados del mundo del cine: los Oscars. Este año se retoma la tradición de nominar a 10 películas en la categoría máxima, cosa que no se hacía desde 1943, el año que ganó Casablanca.

James Cameron, habiendo roto todos los récords y barreras posibles no puede aspirar a romper el récord de Oscars que ostentan Titanic, Ben-Hur y El Retorno del Rey. Con 9 nominaciones parten como virtuales favoritas The Hurt Locker (En Tierra Hostil) y Avatar (que ya es la película más taquillera de toda la historia superando a Titanic); seguidas de cerca, con 8, por Malditos Bastardos de Tarantino.

Este año también tiene representación española que se plasma en Penélope Cruz. Penélope consigue su tercena nominación y esta vez como secundaria por su trabajo en Nine. Aunque no está sola, Javier Recio también ha conseguido entrar en el quinteto de nominados en la categoría de corto de animación con La Dama y La Muerte; además, El Secreto de sus Ojos ha conseguido colarse en la categoría de película extranjera (representa a Argentina pero es coproducción española, como ya le pasó a El Laberinto del Fauno). Una verdadera lástima que los aspirantes Eduard Grau y Javier Aguirresarobe por A Single Man y La Carretera no hayan sido nominados a fotografía después de las grandes alabanzas por parte de la crítica por su tremendísimo trabajo.

Una de las grandes sorpresas este año ha sido la nominación de Peter Jackson como productor de District 9. Después de El Señor de los Anillos, Peter Jackson regresa con una película de ciencia ficción que sorprendentemente alcanza 4 nominaciones.

Up, por otro lado, con 5 nominaciones y una de ellas a mejor película se convierte en la segunda cinta animada en competir por la categoría máxima en toda la historia tras La Bella y la Bestia.
